Seismic Cable & Hardware

We offer a number of products used in seismic restraining. Seismic Restraints are elements designed to keep nonstructural components from moving during earthquakes such as air conditioning units, heaters, sheet metal ducting, light fixtures, etc.

Galvanized Twist Wire (Bison Wire)

Galvanized twist wire (Bison Wire) is a quick and easy way to secure diffusers as there are no sleeves to crimp. You just twist the wire around itself 7-10 times when making a loop to ensure a strong hold. Bison Twist Wire saves you precious time which is huge on a jobsite.

  • available in 5/64" and 3/32" Diameter.

  • 1x7 Galvanized wires.

  • perfect for diffusers in sheet metal industry.

  • each box contains 20 joined 50ft. coils. (1000ft.)

  • minimum Breaking Strength of 150lbs.

  • Sold by the box.

Bison Wire

Galvanized Aircraft Cable

  • wire rope sizes range from 1/16" to 1/4".

  • packaged in 250ft. | 500ft. | and 1000ft. spools.

  • sold in spool lengths.

Wire Rope Accessories

There are a few types of clips commonly used in seismic restraints.

Malleable clips are used more often than Crosby® Clips in seismic restraining. Cost is the big factor as malleable wire rope clips are considerably cheaper than Crosby.

Malleable Clips

  • For light duty, non-critical applications only.

  • Electro-Galvanized finish.

  • Federal Specifi cation FF-C-450D, Type 1, Class 2.

  • Wire rope diameter stamped on saddle.

  • Typically used for fencing, seismic, and home use.

  • NOT to be used on horizontal life lines or on wire rope slings for overhead lifting.

Crosby® Clips

  • All clips are individually bagged or tagged with proper application instructions and warning information.

  • Each base has a Product Identification Code (PIC) for material traceability.

  • Based on the catalogue breaking strength of wire rope, Crosby clips have an 80% efficiency rating for sizes 1/8" to 7/8", and 90% for sizes 1" to 3-1/2".

  • Entire Clip is galvanized to resist corrosion and rusting.

Aluminum & Copper Sleeves

Aluminum Sleeve.jpg
Aluminum stops (2).jpeg
  • Available in copper and aluminum.

  • a hand swaged sleeve has a maximum holding strength of approximately 1/3 of the strength of the cable.

  • a machine swaged sleeve has a maximum holding strength of approximately 1/2 of the strength of the cable.

  • Aluminum sleeves available from sizes 1/16" up to 5/16".

  • Copper sleeves available from 1/32" up to 1/2".

Note: The holding strength of a sleeve is affected by the construction of the cable onto which it is installed. A sleeve installed on a 1x19 cable will yield a different holding strength than an identical sleeve installed on a 7x7 or 7x19 cable.

Standard Thimbles

Thimbles are used in conjunction with wire rope to protect the wire rope from wear.  Thimbles are NOT load bearing therefore do not have an established load limit.

  • Electroplated zinc coating.

  • Stainless steel available upon request.

  • do not have an established working load limit.

  • made to U.S. Fed. Spec. FF-T-276B, Type II

  • available in sizes 1/8", 3/16". Other sizes available upon request.

Spring Hooks

  • Electro-Galvanized Finish.

  • Available in Grade 316 Stainless Steel.
