Grade 100 chain

You can use either Grade 70 or Grade 100 chains for vehicle recovery. Grade 70 chains are less expensive than a Grade 100 chain but have a lower rated capacity.

The benefits of chains over wire rope slings are:

  • you can adjust the length of the chain with a grab hook.

  • easier to store after use.

  • better abrasion resistance.

  • can join to another chain by simply using the grab hook. No shackles required.

The downside of chains to wire rope slings include:

  • more expensive.

  • heavier to handle.

These 10ft. long recovery chains are great in aiding the recovery of most types of vehicles. The 15 inch long "J" Hook is used to latch on to a vehicles axle.

The TJ Cluster hook is used for these types of vehicles:

  • T Hook: Compatible with GM/Chrysler

  • J Hook: Compatible with Foreign

The chain assembly has a Working Load Limit of 4,700lbs. NOT TO BE USED FOR LIFTING!!!

Wire Rope Slings / Chokers

Wire rope slings are useful to recover vehicles where your winch line isn't quite long enough to reach. Wire Rope Slings are custom made to length.

The positives of a wire rope sling compared to a chain sling:

  • do not shatter when they break like some chains do.

  • can use them with a snatch block in recoveries to either go around obstacles or to double the wire sling capacity in a basket hitch.

  • less expensive than chains.

The negatives to wire rope slings:

  • you cannot adjust the length of a wire rope sling.

  • takes up more storage space than chain slings.

  • can be awkward in coiling back up after use.

  • you need additional hardware (shackles) to join one wire rope sling to another if you need to extend your line to a recovery.
